So, we sailed last night and saw a cruise ship, the Norwegian Gem a long ways off. That’s a first in ages! We have a glorious sunrise this morning, such a fine sight after a dark night.
We are still 60 miles from March Harbor, at 4 kts that’s a long trip that will involve much tacking. On that note I did better this morning, we didn’t spin around like Marc Fleury on the ice! Our appetites are still leaning towards the lighter side so this morning we had Go-gurt and fruit cups for breakfast. Light, but good. International coffee for something warm to drink, yum!
So Ive been thinking about this whole engine thing, and it could be worse.
- We found the problem promptly
- We have sails
- We have plenty of food and a water maker…so if we have to sail in circles for a while we’re still OK
- We could be a trawler!
After tacking a whole day and not getting any closer to Marsh Harbor, we had a crew meeting (the monkey crew had no votes) we have decided to head towards Florida as the winds seem to like that direction. We plan to return to Hinckley Boatyard and decide from there where to explore. We are considering northern Florida or as far as Annapolis
OK, so I lied…feeling the subtle differences, while steering the boat is pretty hard. I want to drive it like a car and it doesn’t work that way. I’m still crappy at tacking, but I am working on it. It’s hard to tack in light winds. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!!!
The seas are calm, winds less than 6 kts this evening. The birds were back, the 3 tropicbirds. Earlier we had a tern sitting on the back solar panel. I had to wave my shirt and stomp around the back deck as the little booger was pecking at his reflection on the solar panel

Our watches continue, Steve is on 2100 – 0000 and 0300-0600. I try to nap while he’s on and likewise he naps while I’m on. We are getting so tired, and need a solid 6 hours, soon.
